One of the most unspoken of yet very exciting tourist attraction in Uganda is Witchcraft Safaris In Uganda. Yes Uganda is more known for Adventure in the wild safaris. Most tour operators in Uganda will tell you about the Gorillas in Bwindi and Uganda wildlife safaris. A few will tell you about Witchcraft Safaris In Uganda and yes it exists.
For This article I met a local medicine man called Saloongo from a village called Kikyusa. Salongo is a Muganda witch doctor and like all witch doctors, he says he has powers to make almost everything happen or healed. Salongo has also been host to hundreds of MUZUNGUS who just wanted the threal of staying with a witch doctor. Salongo told me that while he doesn’t actually heal the tourists, he has powers to tell them about information they have not told him but which is actually true! Now that is interesting!
During these visits, the local medicine man will conduct mock divination and sermons to the amusement of his guests. They then engage in the rich culture of the Baganda and their gods before conducting the mock session which involves telling his guests information they haven’t told him!
Salongo does carry out real witchcraft so he says but never does with these tourists unless the tour operator in question has booked a one on one session with the witch doctor on behalf of the tourist.
Are Witchcraft Safaris In Uganda Safe?
Absolutely! Witchcraft Safaris are very safe, legit and legal. As I stated above, these are mock sessions and far from the real witchcraft. They are intended to give the tourist a glimpse into the witchcraft arena. All these sessions are conducted in the full view of everyone and to the ears of every person attending. Most of the time is spent telling stories and explaining how Uganda’s Witchcraft works. If you want A Tourist Day with The Local Medicine Man, talk to your tour agent about adding this to your itinerary.
